FORT PIERCE, FL (AttorneyNewsWire.com) — February 26, 2010 — Evett L. Simmons received the 2010 St. Lucie County Black History Makers Award. Ms. Simmons was presented with the award at the History Makers 4th Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Panther Woods Country Club, Ft. Pierce.
Simmons is being recognized for her accomplishments and service to the community and the state of Florida as well as for her achievements in promoting diversity in law on a national level. Simmons also was recently recognized among South Florida’s 100 Most Accomplished Blacks in Law & Healthcare by the ICABA.
Simmons is Chief Diversity Officer at Ruden McClosky and Chair of the firm’s Diversity Program, which was launched throughout the firm’s nine Fla. offices in 2004. Simmons is administrative partner for the firm’s Treasure Coast office located at 145 N.W. Central Park Plaza, Suite 200, in Port St. Lucie.
Simmons is a member of Ruden McClosky’s Trust & Estates Practice and Real Estate Groups, focusing on real estate, probate, and guardianship litigation. She is a member of The Florida Bar and the American Bar Association (ABA) Presidential Diversity Commission and the House of Delegates. She was recently reappointed, for a second year, as a member of the ABA Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity. She is a past president the National Bar Association (NBA) and now serves as chair of the NBA’s Crump Law Camp Committee, which is a pipeline program offered to youth interested in entering the legal profession.
Simmons received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Suffolk University, Boston, MA, 2001; earned her Juris Doctorate from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law (J.D., 1982); and is a graduate of Florida Southern College (B.A., 1979), where she now serves on the Board of Trustees.
